I may need a wee hand with this from someone if I may?
I have been doing video podcasts and loading to podomatic in .mp4 file format. I do most of the screen capture recording in Camtasia Studio at the moment which I find relatively easy to use.
However - the .mp4 format is for playing on one's iPod obviously. I have tried producing the same recording in other file formats compatible for podomatic so that resolution etc for playing from the pc is better - however the file size is HUGE! Any suggestions please? [yes yes I know Camtasia does huge files :( ]
Sorry Sue I am wondering what is the problem with the .mp4 that is for playing on the ipod. This is the ideal format for uploading to podomatic and is normally the format I always try to as save as. Is the file format too large when you create in this format? If so, there should be a setting that allows you to customise your rates?
However I do believe that Richard Meagher who uses Camtasia all the time does not adjust settings at all. I recommend that you watch his video on how he creates using Camtasia.
Hi Sue - yes I am doing the files for the actual iPod in .mp4. The prob is, when I want to generate the same podcast in a formate more appropriate for watching on the pc, I am running into trouble. ie - what format would I use?
Like Richard, I have not been adjusting any settings, just choosing ipod for output and voila!
Sue -- if you are uploading onto the Internet -- in particular to podomatic than I recommend that you use save for ipod format (hence .mp4 format). While .wmv format (windows media video) does upload fine - if someone downloads onto an ipod I have found that the sound is missing when played on the ipod.
The idea with the Internet is to keep the file size as small as possible while still maintaining video quality. You need to keep file size below 30 MB. The larger the file the longer it will take to load when watching online hence the more likely your viewer willl give up and go away.
If you want the best format for playback on your computer locally Camtasia will suggest that option.
